Global Management Challenge in Russia: how to attract 10 000 + participants annually
The first national competition of the Global Management Challenge was held in Russia in 2006. From that time, Russian teams have twice been International champions, in 2009 and 2012. Since 2012 the Russian national competition has consistently been the largest Global Management Challenge event in terms of number of participants: for instance, this year the Global Management Challenge in Russia attracted more then 12 000 people – managers and students.
The Russian national competition is divided into 2 leagues – student and professional. Managers and university teachers compete among themselves and the best team represents the country in the International final. There is a special league for university students: the best student team has a right to visit an International final as supporters. For many young participants, the Global Management Challenge is also a great opportunity for professional growth – HRs of big companies gladly invites successful participants for internships or even permanent jobs.
In November 2013, a meeting of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives Supervisory Board (co-organizer of Global Management Challenge in Russia) was called. The supervisory board is chaired by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. During this meeting, the results of the Global Management Challenge implementation in Russia were approved. In 2012-2013 the number of people who participated in the Global Management Challenge in Russia exceeded 15 000. In the 2013-2014 edition, participants in Russia number more than 12 000, and it is still the largest national championship among all countries participating in the Global Management Challenge.
Apart from the big national competition, there are 12 regional stages in the major Russian regions, such as Moscow, Kazan, Saint Petersburg, Irkutsk, and Krasnoyarsk. By the way, the first regional final was held on the 28th of February at the Krasnoyarsk economic forum. The Moscow Cup took place on the 20th of March at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2014.
In addition to the regional cups, two university cups were held too. Since 2012 students and professors of the Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (organizers of the Global Management Challenge in Russia) have participated in the Business Battle, a special competition based on the Global Management Challenge. The winning teams earn the right to take part in the national final of the Global Management Challenge.
This year the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics held its own cup, which was also part of the Global Management Challenge in Russia. Many students and professors showed interest in the competition.
The Russian organizing committee of the Global Management Challenge works hard to create networking and career opportunities for all participants. National champions from different countries, representing innovative and hi-tech companies, are invited to take part in Startup Village – a business event that will take place in Moscow in June, 2014.
