Students fight the Macao corner

Four students from the University of Science and Technology in Macao will defend their territory in the international final to be held next September in Sochi, Russia. These young men were the winners from 440 teams that made up the 2013 edition of the Global Management Challenge in Macao, the edition with the greatest number of participants.

Around 1,500 participants in 440 formations joined the 2013 edition of the Global Management Challenge in Macao. Jodie Lam, from Local Partner – MMA (Macao Management Association), “It was the biggest edition in terms of number of teams and participants that we have organised so far” says Jodie Lam, local organizer of the competition. She added that she hopes her team enjoys the experience of being in the international final and that it is a beneficial experience for their careers. By learning more about management they are also contributing to the development and improvement of the quality of management in the territory in which they reside.

The international final, to be held in Sochi will include the new version of the simulator. After Portugal, Macao was the first country to use this new version. For Jodie Lam the competition is closer to the reality of the business world, and the participants have to deal with more aspects from the management world. A view supported by teams that joined the Global Management Challenge in Macao. “The teams described the simulator as more challenging and closer to the reality of business”, says Jodie Lam. From her perspective, and with this new simulator, all countries will be on equal footing in the international final. However it will be interesting to analyse the different reactions of countries present at the event, with respect to the new decisions they need to take.

In practice one of the major advantages of this competition is that “students and executives have the opportunity to make top management decisions and run a company without real life risks, since we are dealing with a simulation. They compete in an environment designed to develop and encourage teamwork and at the same time broaden their strategic vision of their companies”, concluded Jodie Lam.
