Romania will host the next International Final

Bucharest will host from the 16 to 18 April the 30th International Final of the Global Management Challenge. Founded in Portugal in 1980, it is today the largest worldwide competition of strategy and management, present in more than 30 countries throughout the five continents.

The International Final of the 2012 Edition of the Global Management Challenge that now takes place will be disputed by the following countries:

Angola, Belarus, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ghana, Greece, Hong Kong SAR (China), India, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, Latvia, Macao SAR (China), Mexico, People’s Republic of China, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and United States of America.

Each country will be represented by the winning team of their national competition. Only one team will be acclaimed as the international champion and this will only be known in the evening of April 18.

During two intense days, the teams in competition – formed by managers, students and mixed (students and managers) – will give their best to deserve the title of world winner. On the first day, the semi-finals are held, where the teams will be divided into four groups. They will be given the history of the company they will manage and will have to take five sets of decisions (equivalent to 5 quarters) throughout the day. During the final round, which takes place the next day, the two best classified teams from within each group will compete against each other. The best of the eight finalists will be crowned International Champion.

In the last five years the Global Management Challenge has had, as winner’s, teams from countries of Eastern Europe and Asia. Dating further back, to the 2007 Edition, which was won by a team from Macao. Since then, teams from the following countries have climbed the winner’s podium: Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia and then Russia again. It is with some expectation we await the international winner of the 2012 Edition, particularly if the country of origin is from Asia, Europe or Latin America, or even Africa. Remember that they are competing for the world title, against the best teams of each country, so the competition will be fierce.

In Romania the Global Management Challenge has been organized since 2005 by Profiles International, in conjunction with Dima Consulting Group and with the National Bank of Romania as the Patron of Honour. SDG is responsible for this international network of strategy and management competition. Due to the diversity of countries that will be competing in Bucharest, special days of lively cultural exchange are expected, in a city full of history and charm.

Luís Alves Costa, President of SDG, stated:  «it is important to realize that the international final is being held for the second time in a country, where we have been so well received, situated in an area of Europe, where this competition has known great expansion in recent years». With Romania, the Global Management Challenge is also present in most countries of Eastern Europe, particularly in Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Estonia and Latvia.

The internationalization of this competition began in 1981 in Brazil. Since then it has not stopped growing, as shown by the number of countries present in this final.

Around the world the Global Management Challenge has involved more than half a million participants, managers and university students. It is considered internationally by companies and universities, as providing an excellent training in strategy and management. The participants involved in this competition must work as a team, decide on diverse areas of a company, make decisions and manage their organizations in order to have the best listing of its shares on the virtual stock exchange.

The largest competition of strategy and management is, for all the countries involved, the Global Management Challenge. It is maintained continuously in constant update, to stay on the cutting edge of business simulation. The 2013 Edition of this competition will feature a new version of the Simulator, developed jointly by SDG and its partner EDIT 515. The new version will be used by all countries and will bring new decisions that will make the competition greater. The new decisions are related with green issues, training, production outsourcing and shares issue. The winning team will be decided by a new criterion: Investment Performance.
