Second place at the last International Final

‘Pirates’ from Poland took second place at the International Final of Global Management Challenge in Bucharest in April 2013. The team of 4 students talks about their way in the competition and success they have now when entering the real business word.

‘North pirates’ are a group of best friends from Warsaw University, who decided after the Global Management Challenge competition to move on from their team cooperation to the real life and start a business of their own. When starting in Global Management Challenge they were studying and working, gathering experience in large international companies such as Microsoft, Google, Samsung, Accenture, UBS or Bank of America. They have spent a lot of time on Global Management Challenge and seem not to lose the energy and power to do more.

After the International Final they decided to continue with the team work and start a business on their own, a real one. Their company will be delivering highest IT data analyst solutions. “We will use our skills, including those acquired during the preparation for the competition, in running our own business, which is based on creating specialized software” – says Damian Rodziewicz. – “You can find us at Appsilon.pl. This year we are going to choose one of our projects and establish cooperation with companies interested in our software and we begin our adventure in October.” – adds Paweł Przytuła.

The team has already gathered several business proposals from potential sponsors and clients, who have confirmed the fact that Appsilon is the vice champion of the Global Management Challenge competition. “This success opened a lot of doors for us, people we talk to recognize the competition and our achievement. Now, we have to carefully choose the projects that we will decide to do, there are so many possibilities and we are full of energy and excitement for what’s about to happen in the next months!”

Pirates already graduated from Warsaw University, and are now starting postgraduate studies at Kozminski Academy in Warsaw this year (this was the reward in the Polish finals). When asked about memories from Bucharest and the GMC, they say: “All teams have a very high level and managed their companies well. Interestingly, in the international finals teams have applied different strategies, yet the differences were minimal in the Final event. Companies were aggressively competing for customers, making the competition on a simulated market very difficult. “- Says Marek Rogala.

The team was occupying the eighth and seventh place most of the time, and in order to get to the second place the team had to increase the share price significantly. “We decided at the beginning of the game to take a very large investment that paid off in the crucial moment.” comments Filip Stachura. The final score gave Pirates a second position in the GMC Finals.

But as they say, the largest reward from competing in the Global Management Challenge experience is the energy and team empowering they have now to act in the real business life.
